Hello.
You are experiencing the work of Alap.
WinPak
WinPak & MaxPro were the two predominant security software in the industry by Honeywell. WinPak was an access control solution, capable of handling complex security situations at large scale while MaxPro was a video security solution for all kinds of industry needs.
The Predecessors
MaxPro
This was one of my first but most accomplished and favorite projects at Honeywell. It had a great amount of complexity and interesting problems to solve.
MaxPro Cloud, 2012-14
The challenge was to create a solution which can adapt to any market specific need which can vary in terms of granularity + scale of site, users, devices and security needs.
Market Segment
We did a weeklong workshop with all the business stakeholders to define the scope and vision of the project.

We found a distinct pattern of three kinds of behavior in the application use. By separating the application into these three sections would bring simplicity and focus for each individual user/role.

User behavior and drivers were of two types, essentially performing by exception and objective.
By Exception
By Objective
was invented to cater the need of flexibility in roles, responsibilities and access to information. Information at a glace (top of the pyramid) served in the dashboard is the most important, structured and meaningful for Supervisor role. While you go more down the pyramid, the system gives access to more information and interactions for respective roles.
Information pyramid
The application is divided into four bands, while each band represents a unique combination of information and tasks.

In order to achieve flexibility in the application while still maintaining consistency in design, modules were designed. Combining modules, applications can be formed which can be a part of an ecosystem personalized for a specific user and his purposes.

Cards Concept (1-3): allows onstage preview of everything and a progressive disclosure of each section. Improves awareness in all modes and also allows a high level of personalization for the tasks. Flexible enough to be taken across all devices.

Drawers Concept (4-5): Dashboard is made from insights of every section. Each section is a preview mode can be expanded into a focused mode while others shrink to shortcuts.

Timeline Concept (6-7): would show time-based event data of various types and on various panels.

Bands Concept (8): was based on the progressive disclosure of information and control.

What are the specific design elements that will be shared across products and touch-points?
What is the philosophy behind this product set that will guide our approach and ultimately reinforce the Honeywell brand essence?

How does the context, user requirements, or current industry trends effect the approach we must take for the given product set?
What does Honeywell represent?
What is Honeywell’s brand promise?
It was important to align with core values of the company while we develop design principles specific to our product.
Principles
We realized that there is a great disconnect between the real and the virtual for security solutions.
Real vs Virtual
Lounge room
The idea was to bridge this gap by using upcoming technologies. We start with a BIM file to understand the building structures and spaces, giving us enough idea about the doors and security requirements of the building.
This will enable the intelligence of understanding relationship of spaces with the security devices and people using it. Everything including doors, spaces, people become interactive and can be controlled directly.
Following things become possible now
- Click a space and see the occupants and a timelapse of the activity/heatmap
- Click a door or a camera to instantly control it.
- Pick a camera and see what all area it can surveil and where are the blind spots.
- Use depth sensors to record in 3D and also playback in 3D.
- Drag and drop a person into an area and the system will intelligently figure out the doors he/she needs access to.
- Tag a person and track is activity throughout the building.
This page was to help user actively monitor his sites and take actions on an exception basis. Each alarm type had a different procedure for handling.
Alarms
Monitor anything and everything including doors, cameras, people and associated objects. Control and take actions using contextual menu.

We simplified how devices are configured using factory configured devices, template methods and virtual approach. We also made it easy to associate devices and simplify personalization. We designed a new rule engine to simplify automation which used to be a complex coding method previously.
Create & Automate
Design Principles
Future is connected. Internet of things will enable devices to talk to each other and make smart decisions without human interventions, unless required. These devices and sensors will make our spaces more smarter and invisible.
Synergy
Bring clarity and consistency to simplify how user completes the task and provide a content focused experience. This helps user to achieve his goal more efficiently.
Simplicity
Information is futile until its structured, organized and tells a story. Provide insightful information at right place and right time enables you to understand and use it more effectively.
Timely Insights
Big data analytics will identify patterns and adapt to human behavior. Pin pointing abnormalities will be possible. System has capabilities to understand, learns and predict incident or event based on analytics.

Dlightful
This page was supposed to be a starting point for the day. It should tell a story and make data more meaningful so that user knows what to do next.
Dashboard
We tried to simplify the workflows by separating tasks into individual applications. A combination of this can vary as per the role and usecases.
Workflows and information architecture
The mobile app was an important companion and have few very strong use cases for which mobile was a perfect platform. Mobile also gave security personals flexibility while performing duty and effectively handling it.
MPC Mobile
We simplified how devices are configured on the go using the mobile app in three simple steps. We also designed an occupant app which can help the user get around the building as well as exit safely in case of an emergency.
